AFTERCARE

GENERAL CARE

Following the correct aftercare for your extensions or mesh integration system is essential to maintain the quality & lifespan of your extensions.

Failure to follow these instructions may result in damage to your hair extensions & your own hair.

BRUSHING

Use a soft bristle hair brush to leave your hair in shiny, optimal condition.

Begin brushing at the ends, progressing to mid length, & then finally the root area. Be as gentle as possible & AVOID the beads at the root area.

For sleeping, gently tie your hair back in 1 or 2 loose plaits or pony tails. This helps prevent tangles & knots occurring overnight.

WASHING

Before washing, brush your hair thoroughly, then soak with clean warm water.

AVOID tipping your hair forward & always wash from the crown of the head down.

Distribute your normal amount of shampoo at the root area (ensure that it is free of sulphates). Gently massage in small circles over the scalp. This will cleanse both the natural hair & your extensions. Slide the shampoo over the mid-lengths with both hands.

Rinse throughly & repeat if required. Pay particular attention to the areas where your bonds (if applicable) are attached to ensure thorough rinsing.

CONDITIONING

To condition your hair it is important to use a very high quality conditioner. Target the mid-lengths & ends only, DO NOT apply conditioner to the scalp or bonds / beads.

Gently massage & distribute thoroughly. You may want to brush the ends using a soft bristled brush, this helps ensure every hair is coated with conditioner.

Leave on for a minimum of 3 minutes up to a maximum of 10 minutes.

Once conditioned, rinse thoroughly with warm water.

For a conditioning boost, we recommend coming to the salon for a Fabriq Quick Fix treatment, which takes 30 mins & lasts for 4 weeks.

TOWEL DRYING

After rinsing your hair, squeeze any remaining excess water from the hair & wrap a towel around the head.

Gently pat the towel to remove moisture, DO NOT rub the scalp or your hair.

Then gently brush your hair with a soft bristled brush, following the instructions above in the ‘brushing’ section.

DRYING & STYLING

You can leave your hair to dry naturally or use a hair dryer.

If blow drying, blast dry first until your hair is damp. Then apply a heat protecting blow dry spray.

Once dry, if you’re using intense heat like straighteners or tongs, its important to use a good heat protector.

TOP TIPS

  • We recommend only using high quality shampoos & conditioners. AVOID brands containing oils or fruit acids, such as wheatgerm or citrus, & avoid sulphates. Shampoos containing these ingredients can damage extension bonds & will mean that your extensions may not last as long as they should do.

  • Rinse hair for a few seconds more than normal as the extra volume created by your extensions means it can take longer to rinse away product residue.

  • Never sleep with wet or damp hair as doing so could affect the bonds or may cause the hair to tangle during the night.

  • If possible wash your extensions just once a week. You can wash the top of your hair when you feel you need to. Just ensure your extensions are tied out of the way.

  • Styling products are generally extensions-friendly. However, when using serums, use sparingly & only on the ends.

  • If you regularly swim or are planning to holiday whilst wearing extensions, we recommend that when swimming in the sea or swimming pool that you wear a protective bathing cap as the chemicals in the pool or salt levels in the sea may affect your extensions. We cannot guarantee the quality endurance or lifespan of the hair if adequate precautions are not taken.

  • DO NOT colour your hair extensions at home. We can custom colour for you if required.

REFITS

Depending on the type of extensions you have there will be a recommended timescale for you to come in and have you refit or tightening done. Failure to adhere to these timeframes may result in your refit or tightening costing more than stated as it will take much longer to remove & prepare your extensions & natural hair, it may also cause permanent or long term damage to your scalp, natural hair, & your extensions.

The timeframes are as follows;

  • Ultra Tips & Nano Tips -  8-10 weeks

  • Beaded Wefts - 6-8 weeks

  • Mesh Integration System 3-6 weeks
